Although the Irish smoking laws to forbid drinking in pubs, bars restaurants etc, that can just as well be northern Ireland too since smoking in all public places is prohibited in the UK. Quite obviously the writers didn't do there research as I very much doubt this was intended to be set in the UK's part of Ireland.

Not that I don't like clichés about other countries - since the Simpsons are the first to mock about the U.S. when appropriate, that shouldn't bother people from Europe - it's just that most of the jokes are quite mediocre and some of them are just insipid. The whole episode didn't portray Ireland in a very clever, satirical way but seems more like the regular American guy making fun of the Ireland he sees on Hallmark-movies or CNN economy news-broadcasts. And I don't now why, but the German backpackers in an earlier episode were quite more fitting as a mock on Germans than a simple bashing of their language. Even the Oktoberfest guys asking "What have we Germans done to deserve this?" were quite a fierce joke to make, yet still very funny. But whenever the joke aims at something people couldn't help (e.g. their allegedly oh so ugly language - it actually doesn't really sound like that and everybody somehow knows), it's becoming a bit mean and pointless. Like a lousy stand-up comedian fishing for cheap laughs. Quite a long note to that episode, but that's exactly the direction, this great show should not move into. Some funny parts were the Irish IT companies' names and the nice hint at the Irish syntax (don't know why, but this joke worked in contrary to the German language joke). Anyway. Have fun with the Simpsons! :)

About the German Krusty show:
First, I didn't understand it at all, it was just to quick, but if I listened to it a second time I can tell you what they say and it makes some sense.

Krusty welcomes them with the words "Heil, Heil" and Sideshow Mel says "Ach du lieber... Krustys spritzender Gaswasser", Krusty: "Ja ja, Krustys spritzender Gaswasser. Hahaha". I think its a bad joke about the 3rd Reich (German welcomed Hitler with "Heil [Hitler]") and the gasification => Gaswasser (Krusty is a Jew, as we know, and they are making some fun of this, especially about the gasification)...

Well, thats the way I see it, might be different from that... Hope it helps you to understand it.

I think a lot of people here dont get it:

I love/loved the simpsons very much, and i try to see just the positive things and jakes in the new episodes but....

Its just a fact that the simpsons changed there charakters... I dont want to say the new episodes are bad, but they are NEVER so Funny like in the past. Its still good, but not the good old simpsons.

And Homer turns more and more to Peter, in Family Gay. That sad. I dont know how i should say it english ( I´m from Austria) but listen to Homers Jokes.

Everybody MUST listen it that this is not the old Homer, its somthing like a Homer-Peter mix.

PLEASE SIMPSONS, dont change to Family Guy!!!

If you dont expect a simpson episode, but rather a Simpsons/Family Guy Mix the episode is VERY good.

I like Family Guy too with this dumb jokes, but thats just the Stile from Family Guy.......and nooot simpsons-stile.
